we are all just bodies and souls
bags of flesh propped up by bones
bits of stardust smashed together
minds created through electrical tether
well God can take credit for that I guess
choke it down and Sunday scream “God Bless”

we’re all eating this fucking slop
fed down through a tube from a hole up top
kicking and clawing to get our mouths close
to swallow shit that we could never truly know
and we can blame God for that I guess
yeah we can blame him but I think God left

Highway Time

I like the kind of song
that will make me take my hands away
From the steering wheel
while driving 90 down the interstate
Lights in the mirror
tell me I made a mistake
Another 200 bucks
after three long court dates

Now I may be poor
but I ain’t that desperate
I ain’t sold my guitars off
to pay my rent yet
But I still get a little nervous
as I pull out my paycheck
I guess this week will show me
what I really can’t live with

I ain’t asking for much,
just a clean, fair chance
Maybe a little cash
that won’t so quickly leave my hands
Maybe all the records
from all my favorite bands
Definitely a better reason
to get too drunk and dance

So maybe I should slow my speed
Take stock of what I really need
Hear what the wise men heed
Take caution not to exceed
Only eat when I have to feed
Notice each and every deed
Cherish every healthy seed
Follow who I want to lead

Done and done
Is how it oughta end
But if you understand the rules
Watch how easily they bend
It’s hard for me to believe
How such words and feelings blend
I can’t fight the notion
That I only trust those I know have sinned

World of Lies

I never meant to build this world of lies
still I perpetuate it, find it hard to apologize
I’ll pick up the pieces some day soon
but until such a time, prepare for impending do do do doom

forever see the world through foggy eyes
cleared the lenses, but it’s far too late to have realized
sometimes it pays to just be true
it’s something that I’m finding harder and harder to do

as I spend my last day in bed
only one thought resides in my head
nothing from the books that I’ve read
it’s wasted energy like sending shockwaves through the dead.

I like to say I woke up at dawn
but in reality, I stayed up all night long
reading some stories on my phone
making minimal noise because I’m not the only one who is home
cats broke into the trash can
scattered moldy food all over the deck again
they’re not like the ones we keep as friends
hide in the deep woods in which they effortlessly blend

I’ve got ten fingers, ten toes
what life what be like without them, how could I know?
I’ve got a passive disease
I could enjoy the forest, if not for the trees.
one makes two, and two makes four
and so and so and so for a hundred million more.
And the cats are alright by me
Say what you will but everybody’s got to eat.

Some Albums

Dear Reader,

I’m going to do something different today. I want to share with you some of my musical tastes. Now I listen to a fair amount of music, and I listen to a rather broad array of stylings but one thing is for sure, I really do love albums. And I love listening through the whole thing to get the full experience whether that was the intention or even if it really was just a collection of songs that the band threw onto a vinyl or cd or whatever. So this is a list that recounts my favorite albums as completely self-contained things. Some of these bands I’ve only listened to the mentioned album and some of my favorite bands don’t make an appearance. The order doesn’t really mean anything past the first 3 honestly. It’s just kind of in the order of how I remembered them. I was trying to do a 10 album list but it turned into a 25 album list which turned into a 50 album list. So you should really just think of this as 50 albums I really love, in no particular order.

There’s Nothing Like a Good Story

Our lives don’t climax,
We aren’t Aristotelian tales.
We ride waves; we sink
We rise again.
We run into shadows,
We find the light
We stay the path however narrow
We lose sight.
We’re only born
We only die.
